8) Resource dependencies of the Messenger
8.1 I have changed the IP address of the database server, what must I do?
JDBC drivers are all directly communicating to the database using TCP/IP. An IP change requires reconfiguration of the Database settings in the Messenger.
8.2 My database is unavailable at the moment (shutdown/network failures), what happens to the Messenger?
Any inbound and outbound messages will fail at a very early stage. The message-monitor will not display any messages, instead an error is displayed on top of the page. Messenger Status page needs about one minute to show up and displays "Database connection:ERROR". Agreement editing does not work.
8.3 I have changed the public IP address of my proxy server or gateway, how does this change impact my Messenger installation?
Any outbound communication of the Messenger is passing the Proxy Server / Gateway, so if the IP of the server changes so does the origin IP of message transmissions. A result can be that firewalls at receivers do not accept the connections any more. Receivers need to be notified about the IP change.
8.4 My proxy server is unavailable, what can I do?
If the Proxy Server is down, all the outbound transmissions of the Messenger will fail. The difference between an unavailable proxy server and a problem at the receiver side can only be distinguished when looking at the Messenger log file.
8.5 My proxy server needs authentication, how do I tell the Messenger?
Proxy Authentication needs to be configured on the Messenger. If a generic user/password is used, it has to be kept up to date. Otherwise outbound transmissions will fail with a proxy dependent error message.
8.6 I have changed the IP address of my listener machine, what to do?
The communication between Messenger and Listener is initiated from the Messenger, therefore the configuration on the Messenger needs to be updated with the new IP address. Inbound connections will be rejected at the Listener if the connection to the Messenger is not working properly.
8.7 What impact has the system time of the messenger server?
If the Messenger cannot connect to any NTP server, it is important that the local system time is as precise as possible. "Message was not received in time" errors are likely if the offset of the system time to the reference time is larger than 60 seconds.
8.8 I have changed/updated my own partner certificate, what now?
All communication partners should be notified about any changes to the own partner certificate. This is especially important if the receiver uses a Secure-Listener with SSL-client-authentication.
